Why it happens
Grease and oil
In the kitchen they're the main cause: they stick to the pipe walls and catch everything else.
Food scraps and coffee grounds
Rice, pasta and grounds mix with the grease and form a plug.
Hair and soap
In the bathroom sink they bind together and get stuck in the trap.
Limescale
Rome's water is hard: over time, old pipes narrow.
How I fix it
I clear the drain all the way to where the blockage formed, not just the trap, and check the water runs away properly again.
If the kitchen drain blocks often, a camera inspection shows me where the dirt collects inside the pipe. If the pipe is damaged, I repair it with relining, without breaking walls or tiles.
